3D Printed Embryo Models and Embryo Socks at Valorization Festival
18-09-2025
Valorization = making scientific knowledge widely matter
The inaugural Valorization Festival at Amsterdam UMC provided an excellent platform for showcasing the impact of embryology research and raising vital funds for pregnancy loss studies. Dr. Bernadette de Bakker delivered a presentation titled “From Embryo to Impact,” while the team hosted an engaging market stand featuring 3D printed embryo models and unique limited edition Embryo Socks.
The market stand, jointly hosted by Madeleine de Bakker, Rosa Lagerwerf, Jaco Hagoort, and Puck Mulder, featured 3D printed embryo models now available through 3DEmbryoPrints.com. These models, based on scientific data from the 3D embryo atlas, provide tangible and scientifically accurate educational tools for healthcare professionals, educators, and families affected by pregnancy loss.
The Little Miracles Foundation achieved remarkable success at the festival, raising nearly €1,000 through sales of special edition socks and donations. These funds will contribute directly to the purchase of a Micro-CT scanner, essential equipment for advancing research into pregnancy loss and miscarriage prevention. With 44 pregnancies lost worldwide every minute, this research addresses a critical healthcare need that touches nearly everyone.
The success of the showcase was made possible through partnerships with Mike Strik from Sokkies, who created the Embryo Socks, and Thomas Lück from cirp GmbH, who provided 3D printing expertise for the display models. These collaborations demonstrate how academic research, industry partners, and foundations can work together to create meaningful impact.
The positive response and support from festival attendees reflects the community’s recognition of the importance of pregnancy loss research and the innovative approaches being developed to address this significant medical challenge.
